HYDROPCB

A pilot programme promoting Circular Economy in the metal sector, run jointly by ECORESET and the School of Mining and Metallurgical Engineering of the National Technical University of Athens. The School’s participation in the programme involves using the original research results of three laboratories to prepare an integrated hydrometallurgical/biological processing flowchart, based on which a pilot hydrometallurgy unit will be designed and built. The unit will operate at ECORESET’s facilities, in order to recover Cu, Ag, Au and Sn from Printed Circuit Boards contained in Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE).

The Project is expected to document for the first time in Greece, at a pilot scale:

(1) the potential for recovery of metals from WEEE, by using mechanical pre-treatment, separation of components and hydrometallurgy; and

(2) the implementation of liquid waste processing to remove metal solvents through a biotechnological process.

The management of solid and liquid residues is one of the priorities of both organisations, with the additional environmental goal of zero waste disposal.
