Positions on the Environment
Less waste, more resources
In Greece, every year, more than 4 million tonnes of waste unjustifiably end up in a landfill and, together with them, millions of tonnes of useful raw materials.
By following the linear model of development, which is disastrous for the planet, we yearly extract non-renewable raw materials at a rate that is 70% higher than what the Earth can sustain.
Our only option, in order to ensure the survival of future generations, is to reduce the waste we produce and to manage it by prioritising re-use, recycling and energy recovery in the context of a Circular Economy.
ECORESET effectively contributes to the recovery of resources and to their reintroduction to the production chain, by diverting from landfill and exploiting more than 96% of the total quantity of materials it handles.
Cleaner environment, better life
The uncontrollable waste production and the use of fossil fuels are the main factors driving climate change, threatening the planet’s vulnerable natural ecosystem.
Organic waste decomposing in landfills is producing methane, one of the most powerful ‘greenhouse gases’, which are responsible for the climate change. One tonne of methane is the equivalent of 84 tonnes of carbon dioxide, in warming the planet over a 20-year period.
Plastic waste, either deposited in landfill or, even worse, ending up in the marine environment, remains unaltered for hundreds of years only to disintegrate into tiny particles, which penetrate into the food chain.
Waste from consumer goods that ends up in the landfill, without being processed, contaminates the soil and the water table with toxic substances (lead, mercury, hexavalent chromium, etc.), which are extremely harmful to the health of any living organism.
Shifting to environmentally friendly energy sources and properly managing waste are fundamental obligations of humans and the key factors towards environmental protection.
ECORESET diverts more than 35,000 tonnes of waste from landfill each year, thus protecting the environment from the release of methane and eliminating the risks posed to citizens’ health by harmful substances in water and air.
Greed, ignorance and irresponsibility threaten life and health
The consequences of uncontrolled waste management, without rules and sound processes in place, are terrifying, for both ordinary household waste and complex technological products at the end of their life.
The old television that you will leave, with good intentions, next to the garbage bin, will not cover anyone’s television needs. On the contrary, it is an ecological disaster in the making, as it will most probably end up in the hands of unscrupulous people who will smash it into pieces, to keep only a printed circuit board and a few cables and then light a fire outdoors to burn them, in order to recover a few grammes of copper, releasing toxic and cancer-causing substances into the atmosphere in the process. All the rest will be thrown away in a nearby creek, indifferent to the soil and water pollution they cause.
Plastic bags that brainless people will leave on the beach will end up floating in the sea for the next 400 years, threatening marine fauna and flora, until they disintegrate into microplastics, which will find their way into the food chain.
Only properly informed knowledgeable citizens, with environmental awareness, can stand up against such behaviours, promoting recycling and proper waste management practices.
At ECORESET, we believe that indifference towards the crime committed around us every day is in fact complicity in it, and we implement very strict processes regarding the management of all materials we receive.
Responsible management + Diversion from landfill = Protection of public health
The company’s responsibility with respect to the management of all streams of materials is not limited to our accountability for 100% of the quantities we receive nor to our strict policy of zero tolerance on delinquency that we implement.
Above all, we are aware of our important role in addressing environmental pollution and public health risks, posed by the hazardous substances contained in the materials we process, as well as the uncontrolled disposal of waste in sanitary landfills or in the environment.
Our business activities, reflecting our corporate philosophy and stance, are based on three axes
- Fighting pollution
- Maximising diversion from landfill
- Maximizing recovery of resources

the common denominator being the effective limitation of environmental perils and the protection of public health.
In this direction, we continuously invest in modern technical equipment and the ongoing training of our staff, while we implement the best available practices, in the framework of an Integrated Management System, covering all the sectors of our business activity.
